Crazy sock day...oh boy!!

Yesterday was "crazy sock day" at the daycare. The kids were supposed to wear fun socks to school....seeing that it's not very easy to find "cute" socks for a boy, I was thinking he would have to wear his "crazy" tan socks I just bought him. Ooh, he will be the talk of the daycare with those! Ha! Well, over the weekend, we went in the Life is Good Store and lo and behold they had some cute boy socks in there, and they were even on sale. SCORE!! So, I bought these precious socks...the motto for them is always looking at the glass half full...and in this case, it's looking at the sippy cup with milk half full. :) John had a hoodie earlier this year with that symbol on it, so I thought the socks were super cute. I just wanted to share. :)

This is John the morning of going to school, doesn't he look so excited for crazy sock day? Ok, maybe he just looks like "hey mom...thanks for the great socks, i promise I won't pull them off within 10 seconds of being at school and then flail them around the room...seriously....don't I look innocent?" :)

Mommy is SO funny!!

So, I just had to write a quick blog because I just realized yesterday that I am quite hilarious. You see, I picked John up from the daycare and had to run and fill up my car (this prevents me from waking up late, running out the door, only to find that I will be on fumes the entire way to work and will be super late if I stop for gas...not that this has happened before or anything :)). Anyway, I took him to get gas and while the car was filling up, I decided to do a little entertaining. It all started when I sneezed, well this in and of itself is quite hysterical. Seeing that I just can't get enough of my son's laughter, I started fake sneezing...this led to all sorts of funny facial expresssions and head movements and it got him QUITE tickled! Sorry for the blurry images, but when you're trying to hold a camera, sit awkardly in a seat, and sneeze all crazy, it's hard to keep the camera still and make a nice looking photo! I hope you enjoy his laughter as much as I did....I just need to add a soundtrack of his actual laugh and it would be golden. Oh well, enjoy my feeble attempt at showing true laughter. :)

I LOVE BUBBLES!

So, one of John's favorite times during the day is bathtime...we have recently started adding bubbles to his bath and he gets such a kick out of them. He is now using the bubbles to make a bubble beard on his face and even some bubble sideburns...ha! He also tends to take a big scoop in his hand and then try to eat them...it's funny how that ususally only happens once during bath. I guess the delicious looking white foam isn't so delicious after all. :) He has a ton of fun and we spend extra time playing around the bath tub now. He evens loves at the end of the bath when I've drained the water to start smashing all the leftover bubble piles that are still in the tub. It's amazing how this quick 5 minute event now takes 30 minutes plus cleaning up the floor, walls, and mirror from all the sloshing and bubble throwing. But, I wouldn't trade it for anything....these are such precious moments and I truly cherish each day...what an amazing love I have for my child...all the more reason to be reminded of God's great love for us!

Tidbits of fun...

These are just a few funny photos of John. The first couple are of him playing with my sunglasses...he thinks he's quite cool with them on. I didn't have the heart to explain that they were girl sunglasses and he really wouldn't want evidence when he's 18 that he used to wear women's accessories...but lo and behold, my camera phone snapped a picture and I was forced to share. :) The last picture is what John looks like after chowing down on chocolate ice cream...who knew a 15 month old could grow a mustache! :) heh! heh!

Just having fun....

There is not a lot to report since my blog last week...but I must mention that John is such a good baby at entertaining himself. He got a new car from Mawmaw and Daddy John this weekend that plays "Rock Around The Clock" when you push a button on the top and also moves forward and backwards by pushing buttons on top. Well, John just LOVES this car and played with it all weekend long...he would just walk around the house with the car under his arm and get so excited when it would play the music, even dancing at times (that will be on video soon so I can share!). He even played chase and ran with the car...only to hide behind the door in the laundry room and peek out laughing (hence the picture behind the door). He would just laugh and giggle and then start the music over...needless to say, mommy had Rock Around the Clock playing in her head all during the night and in my dreams! :) I know this is payback somehow for all the noisy toys we've bought for friend's children over the years...how did I know they didn't want them to have a drum set??? :)

Proof that I do LOVE bananas!!

Well, I know I wrote awhile back about how much my son LOVES bananas, but I'm not sure my story gives his obsession justice. You see, this goes beyond just a "hey mom, look...a banana...I bet that would taste good" to "OH MY GOSH!! There is a banana!!! I must have the most delicious tasting food on the planet right now or my whole body will shut down!" That's just a short summary of what I think his sweet little brain is saying. I have been wanting to get his banana "love" on video but just haven't captured a good moment yet. However, Mawmaw and Daddy John recorded some sweet footage last weekend that I will upload as soon as I get it from them. But for now, I decided that a series of photos might show you a glimpse into how the banana "love" works in John world. :)

Since Barry and I were out of town this past weekend, we didn't get to do our normal grocery run on Sunday afternoon so we could pick up food, and of course fruit, for the week. This meant we were pretty much out of everything. On Wednesday afternoon, I think it finally dawned on John that he didn't receive a banana all week because as soon as we pulled up in the driveway, he started saying "nana..nana" over and over. I knew I was going to the store that afternoon, so that just made me speed up! :) When we walked in, I made sure I grabbed a lot of other groceries first since I knew once we hit the banana aisle, we would be stalled for a bit while he had one. :) This is where the pictures below come into play....I've added a little naration just in case you were wondering what he was thinking. Heh! Heh!

Look mommy...I think those are bananas!! See, right there...where I'm pointing.
Oh my gosh!!! They are bananas...I just heard mommy say the word!! I'm so excited!
Time for a delicious bite....I definitely dont't want a puny bite, so here I go!
MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM....that is so good!!!
I don't want any delicious morsels falling out of my mouth, so I better push them back in with my fingers. There's been a banana ban in my house lately, so I better enjoy it while I can. :)

I hope everyone enjoyed the mini slideshow...now you can understand a little more on why I love talking about John and bananas. :)

Mmmmm....chalk!

Well, this past weekend, Barry and I headed to Austin for him to compete in the Longhorn 70.3 triathlon. I won't go into a lot of details about the race since he will update his blog to describe everything, but he did great! He had his personal best Half-Ironman time and qualified for the Ironman 70.3 World Championships next November. Yes, that means he won't participate in that race for a year, but this was the first qualifier and he's in!! Woo hoo!!!

We decided to leave John with Mawmaw and Daddy John since we knew the drive to Austin might be tough on our little wiggle worm, and race day is tough on a 14 month old when you get up at 4:00 a.m. head out to the race site, and then spend 8 hours outside without being able to go anywhere. I knew John could handle it and probably be quite an angel (not a biased statement!), but I figured he would be better having his normal schedule, normal nap times, and getting a little extra spoiling from grandparents. Now that I think about it, with my parents in town the weekend before and him being with Barry's parents this past weekend, I think he is spoiled more than I ever thought possible! :)

He had a great weekend. One fun point was when he was introduced to sidewalk chalk. I had bought some right before we went out of town, so I sent it with his bags and thought he could try it out. Mawmaw reported back that John did quite well with the chalk...he leaned down to the sidewalk and started making marks...I thought...this is where my little artist is really showing himself. Then, only seconds later, Mawmaw looks at him and my little genius of an artist is chomping down on the big blue chalk piece!! He had chalk all over his face and tongue of course...so he had a quick mouth washout. Needless to say, he is watched VERY closely with chalk. In supplement to that, mommy thought it would be fun to let him color last night. So, I got out these new kids crayons (they are a big animal holder with a crayon inside of it to make it easier for smaller hands)...so pulled out the big coloring book I had bought and sat down with John to let him show me his wonderful artistic talent that Mawmaw and Daddy John had seen. He leaned over...put the crayon to the paper (mommy was just waiting anxiously for him to create his own Picasso...or would that be Brooksasso...heh! heh!)...and as I anxiously waited for those first few strokes of genius, he quickly turned the crayon around and shoved it into his mouth and took a big chomp out of it. Mommy was quickly doing the finger swipe in his mouth to get out green crayon chunks as he smiled real big. Hmmm...this cleaning out art supplies from the mouth is starting to sound familiar! :)

John also went to the park and enjoyed being a big boy on several of the facilities. He loved sitting up like a big boy and showing that he looks at least 16 months old instead of 14 months. Ha! He also got a new outfit from grandparents, I tried to get a picture of the front and back which is quite difficult on an active 14 month old. The front says "Mommy's little treasure" and has a pictures of a treasure chest...and on the back across his bottom it says "open at your own risk." Heh! heh! I've attached some pictures for you to enjoy.

John's words are starting to get better and better. When he wants more, he still signs, but he also says "mo." When we say bird, he will say "bur." He says bye-bye really well and of course mama and dada still come out strong. He is just learning so much each day and we are hearing him talk more and more. It is so wonderful to see everything starting to come together as he begins communicating even more with us.

I've attached various pictures from what I wrote about. The one from Barry is when he's taking off on the run portion of the race. After swimming 1.2 miles and biking 56 miles, he looks like a "man on a mission" taking off for the 13.1 mile run!!!

Until next time.....
